I don’t get much opportunity to play games these days. I do dabble on World of Warcraft now and then, but by no means as much as I used to. The last excellent game I purchased was The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. That was, and still is, a time vacuum from which there is no escape. These days I’m a lot more selective about the games I play. I can’t help but jones for some single-player goodness from time-to-time.
But now I’ve been ambushed by Company of Heroes (CoH). CoH is one of the best real-time strategy games I’ve played since Battle For Middle-Earth and it’s sequel. CoH isn’t like most other strategy games. Resource management is almost nil and you spend most of your time managing your troops and planning your tactics.
The game begins on D-Day in 1944. Your lead the men of Able Company onto Omaha Beach on Normandy and have to rush them up the beach to the “shingle.” This is no easy feat in itself as you’ll have to dodge mortar fire and MG42 machine gun fire from the many pillboxes and bunkers that line the beach. Absolute. Beautiful. Carnage.
If you’re looking for an awesome real-time strategy game I recommend taking a look at Company of Heroes.
