The Men Of Coram Deo gathered today to play Ving Pong. Basically Ving Pong is a bastardization of racquetball, squash and ping pong. Here’s how it goes.
Teams are made of two people. The weapons: ping pong paddles, minus the covering. This basically provides you a flat, wooden surface to smack the ball.
Your goal is to hit the ball at least 6′ 4″ into the air. It only is required to hit a wall once, and that’s on the serve. After that, everything is fair game. The judge, or referee, sits in the “Hell Box” which is basically out of bounds. You can play in basically any semi-open room with your buddies.
The ball can only bounce once on the ground. If the opposing team does not return it, the team that hit the ball scores a point. If the team that hit the ball was not serving they do not win a point, they only take over the serve. As a bonus a large trashcan is randomly placed in the room. If your time hits the ball and it lands in the trash you score a point.
Games are played to seven points. The winner must win by two. Any thing in the room that is not in “Hell” is basically just an obstacle. If the ball hits it the ball is still in play and you only get one bounce.
Honestly, Ving Pong is no joke. All the guys were flying across the rooms, digging in for some saves and making some awesome moves. It was a great time and it’s awesome that Bob, Will and JD set this up for it. Will is actually in this video. He’s the tall white guy in the white clothes.
