What Time Is It?

Worked late. Been here since about 2230 (10:30 PM) CDT. Installed a server, installed a new load balancer, plugged in two new sweet cabinet PDUs into my racks. I’ve got the new load balancer working and it’s jamming away. Now it’s just a matter of getting it’s twin to work.

I have had to pump some Code Red Mt. Dew into my system as well as some Aquafina (shameless yet unpaid plug for both products. Two of my co-workers are helping out while I work on the load balancer. These guys are champs. Long days but some good payouts in the end.

It’s awesome to work with people who care about what they do and how they do it. Honestly, when I was in the military the Paretto Principle applied (the 80/20 rule). I have to admit, sad as it is, that 20% of the people I worked with did 80% of the work. The rule applied at my last gig as well. The big problem there was that a lot of people would sign off on work that was not up to the standard I wished it was just to fit jobs within the budget. Sure, it’s wonderful to save the client money but are you really helping them if you can’t really finish the job until it’s completed and provide the best value for your dollar?

Not here, these guys and gals where I work are top-of-the-line performers. Working day-to-day with people who are dedicated professionals who enjoy what they do makes my job more fulfilling in the end.

Do late nights suck? Only when I have 0830 (8:30 AM) meetings and I can’t comp a few hours to catch up on sleep. That’s what caffeine is for!
