A scant seven days later, the Husker football program has chosen Bo Pelini as the new head coach. This comes as no surprise considering there’s been rumors for the last week that Bo’s wife was in Lincoln looking at real estate.
Among other notable jobs, Pelini was an assistant coach for the Arizona Cardinals, Green Bay Packers and the New England Patriots. In 2003 he was the Defensive Coordinator for the Huskers under Coach Frank Solich. Pelini led the Huskers to a victory in the 2003 Alamo Bowl as Interim Head Coach after the Nebraska Athletic Director, Steve Pederson, fired Solich after a 9-3 season. Bo then interviewed for the Head Coach position but was not selected as the Huskers chose Bill “I Don’t Know How To Win” Callahan instead.
What amazes me is that the Huskers hired Callahan after he posted a 4-12 season with the Oakland Raiders. Sound familiar to any Husker fans out there?
Pelini is known for his strong defensive focus which is an area the Huskers have been suffering. After two losing seasons we are all pretty sure that our defense sucks. The rest of the NCAA knows too.
Now we all anxiously await the termination of the rest of the staff. Let’s see where the chips fall.
